In some cases, implants may be placed in the upper jaw without the need for a sinus lift, if enough bone height is available. However, when the sinus limits the amount of bone height for use, sinus augmentation may be needed in order to place an appropriate size of implant. This procedure involves flapping the tissue and creating a window in the bone that is filled with bone material. Once healed, this new bone allows for implant placement into the grafted region without communication into the sinus.
